Mosaics for the American Visionary Art Museum

Cutting glass, mirrors, fingers, etc. 

I've been working for the Visionary Museum in Baltimore, and artist Mari Gardner for several months building the rest of the mirror and mosaic panels that cover the outside of the AVAM building. 

Progress charts and layout diagrams. Install to begin August (or September) 2014. This faces Covington Street, Key Highway, and Federal Hill Park.

Grouted, polished and completed panels. There are just under 200, 30"x60" Durock cement panels, made beautiful.

Laid out for grouting and stacked for slow-drying.

Process plans.

We also get to work with some of the boys in the Schaefer House of Baltimore (Juvenile Services) ages 14 to 17. We teach them the mosaicing processes, they get to make their own pieces, and they add to our final panels with circles and 3-D pop-out spheres. They do amazing and wild work, see below!

Extra addition: old school overhead projector lenses, sprayed and coated with super-glam car paint.

40"x35" Oil on canvas

35"x30" Oil on canvas. Currently rolled, not on wood stretcher. Can be re-stretched, priced for either.

28"X36" Oil on canvas. Still life from cut vegetables and railroad pieces.

25"x25" Oil on canvas, mixed media (ink.. acrylic.. maybe wax?)

30"x24" Acrylic on canvas, mixed media (textures like coffee beans and string).

18"24" Oil on canvas. Copy of Cézanne's La mer à l'Estaque.

18"x24" Ink on Paper. Framed and currently hanging, but may as well be for sale if someone is interested!

72"x48" Oil on canvas. Larger than life size; it's sister piece has a home in SC. Also I should probably note that this is a reference to the Hooper Straight lighthouse in St. Michaels, MD (see below). This previous post may also be helpful.

And finally

80"x35" Oil on wood. This is actually on a standard size interior door. You can use it in your house! Back is done in black and white graniteware pattern.

Sugar Farm Productions

A few photos by my friend Alison Harbaugh: photographer, videographer and the girl behind Sugar Farm Productions and Freckle Photography. Her work is fantastic and worth checking on often to see what new things are coming out of that Sugar Farm. Recently Alison shot a short bio/intro film for Makeup artist Rachel Leight (Rachel McKnew) of DaintyArtistry (Redding, CA). As part of the trio, I had my makeup professionally done for a day, and we all got to bask in the beauty of this woodland pond, though it was deceptively cold out.

My Hand! Also my first valid henna, done by Christalene Karaiskakis, who does beautiful work on multiple levels of body painting. I do love repetition in art, and the skeletal system.

Doctors, Pandas, Women

I don't think I've had this much of a Savannah/SCAD inspired weekend since living back in Maryland. Three consecutive days off (boom), I painted until 1:30 a.m. in an empty building all alone, had to be up early for a film/lecture at a film festival, I purchased 4 new notebooks (very excited to fill them up with lists, notes and art-notes), and thought of a new tattoo (hopefully won't get this one). Then there was being too busy to eat, calling doctors I don't know (and who don't know me, double plus), setting up a new website (for the lady I'm painting murals with) and managing to log into my old paypal account, only to find that the address on record was still W 38th street in Savannah, GA. How nostalgically full circle.

So here is one complete panda. Currently I'm working with "A Girl and A Brush", painting rooms in the new Chesapeake Bay Pediatrics, Stevensville, MD.

Not quite complete pandas:

New topic. Rowdy hearted women, bold art. The Guerilla Girls are in all of these types of documentaries, though. Not that there's anything wrong with that. (Love.) I'm really curious to see who and what will be discussed in 20 years when one of these films is made about today and tomorrow's art-minded women.

And, more pandas. This is from the mural we made off-site and installed in the children's oncology  room at Memorial Hospital, Savannah GA in 2008.

No stranger to pandies. They also eat for about 14 hours a day. Side note, one of the books I'm using is called Animal Life Cycles, every page has a detailed illustration of every animal mating, from hedgehogs to hyenas. It's actually all the same.
