Tiny Fruits

Marker, watercolor, and ink on paper.

Origination: If I have a moment to put marker to paper, it's usually fruit that comes out. Just for fun. The simplest stupid indulgence.

Personified: to live as though we expect the lion to live, unaffected by much, could be a great gift.

Things that make sense, things that are bits and pieces of what we learn as time happens, things that are in my ink notebook.

Always a good idea to ask this question. Especially to people you love (who are very close to you). Like.. in a timely and relevant fashion.

It always helps.

And now I love leeks.

Just say what you think, just pick something, just choose something, have a preference, keep caring about what you care about. And no one can actually know what you're thinking without it coming out of your mouth.

And sometimes at all costs. People can get pretty creative when they really want to.

Whose slides?

In 2010 I used to go to the American Corner/Federalsburg, MD auctions. This is deep into Maryland's Eastern Shore.  One night I took three slide packs from a completely discarded table where everything was free, after the winning bidder took only what they were gunning for. They are labeled Alaska 1965, Plane trip to Slippery Rock, Some beautiful mountain landscapes, Cabin Caliadonia [meaning Caledonia?] *Special one, Mary & Walter, and Beach scenes. They are all very gorgeous slide photos. This particular one is a runway in Canada, of which there were several. Out of 90 slides, there is only one with people, (two people standing on a beach). There has to be some universal old photo lost and found. The ones I saw online seem junky. So if you read this and take interest, pass it along.

30"x24" Acrylic on canvas, mixed media (textures like coffee beans and string).

18"24" Oil on canvas. Copy of Cézanne's La mer à l'Estaque.

18"x24" Ink on Paper. Framed and currently hanging, but may as well be for sale if someone is interested!

72"x48" Oil on canvas. Larger than life size; it's sister piece has a home in SC. Also I should probably note that this is a reference to the Hooper Straight lighthouse in St. Michaels, MD (see below). This previous post may also be helpful.

And finally

80"x35" Oil on wood. This is actually on a standard size interior door. You can use it in your house! Back is done in black and white graniteware pattern.

Sketchbook Project

The Maryland Federation of Art celebrated their 50th anniversary by putting together a local chapter of the Sketchbook Project (endeavor of Art House Co-op). 100 sketchbooks were on display this summer at The Art Gallery, University of Maryland College Park, before joining the masses in Brooklyn. Mine was there, filled with little fragments and ink.

Avocado Tree (and Coney Island)

Previously I began germinating an avocado pit, and for the first time received actual results:

Several weeks in, the pit was ready for dirt. COMPLETELY UNRELATED- I sprinkled the dirt and my pit's new home with beach glass gathered from Coney Island. Featured on the glass is the Wonder Wheel, Tower Swing (to the right), and the creepy-wonderful 'Steeplechase Funny Place' face, each in black ink and then clear coated.

Gorgeous days make for new healthy leaves.

I'm a Good Dog

(This took place November 9th at Atomic Books in Baltimore.)  Ken Foster author of I'm A Good Dog, was in town at the book store -which is much more than a book store- for a signing, a speaking session, and an all around event complete with illustration show.  See my piece below. Proceeds went towards B-More Dogs, a Pit Bull advocacy group in town. Also found out about Erin Fitzpatrick, who's pet portrait ability was being auctioned off that night, fitzbomb.com for her more relevant work. I also met Ruby the therapy dog! Not being raised around dogs of any sort, I can finally get on well with them by now.. but I wanted to crawl into this specific dog's face-folds and sleep in a cradle of love.

Medicinals. More cutesy than not.. 12"x12" acrylic and ink on mat board. This is certainly a memory from my real life, only sub cats.

Framed Ink

A new addition to Cafe Sado located in Chester, Maryland. Sushi, Thai, and great atmosphere. A pepper and a peapod done in sumi ink on paper. One of the by-products of my Asian painting class at SCAD more than several years back. My name and name-stamp in Mandarin are on the side (traditional placement). Tony, the lovely Sado owner, is the only Mandarin speaking member of staff while everyone else is from the South Pacific. We figured this piece could squeeze in under a general Asian guise. 

Summer Ink

Chinese ink set on sumi paper. Cropped image. Original 17"x11". Green summertime peppers. This is my way of delaying other things.. like finishing a 60"x50" acrylic fossil. So for now I'll post dated veggies. Stay tuned, I guess.

Paper 16, Ladybugs/mortality

Ink on paper; After once upon a time stumbling into Lindsay's cabin and noticing hundreds upon hundreds dead (ladybugs), though they looked peaceful. 

Tonight: Sneaky Pete watching Forrest reading Grace Slick's autobiography and blankly asking "what is this?" Note the neon melon paper and tank top; the camera cannot even do their brightness justice.
